Well, most days in our home you will find well-loved toys strewn across the living room floor, an abundance of crumbs scattered beneath the kitchen table, and the bathrooms in varying states of disarray. By all design standards, this is not a picture of a “radiant home.”
The radiance we refer to is the radiance belonging to Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1:3 says, “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power.” What a beautiful word picture! As followers of Jesus we are called to display His glory as we interact with the people He has placed in our lives. “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).
Though we know what God has called us to, we still struggle daily against our own sin and self-sufficiency. We definitely have days (sometimes many in a row) when we are not so shiny. When we examine our hearts, we are a truly a mess! We fall short of God’s holy standard every minute (Rom. 3:23). He is radiant. We are not.
The amazing thing is that even though God demands punishment for our sin, He also provides the perfect sacrifice through His son, Jesus Christ, so that we are no longer condemned for our sin but forgiven and adopted into the family of God. We deserve punishment, but we get grace! (Eph. 1:3-14)
This is what we want to share with others. So we ask ourselves: How can we share God’s grace with others using the gifts and skills God has given us? How can we develop relationships with people in a way that points them to the radiance of Jesus? We pray that God continues to renew our hearts and that His grace overflows from our home. And we pray that your homes will also be radiant with the presence of Jesus to those around you!
